Kodak has been experiencing some "issues" with the Thermal Gold plates
recently. If you have noticed that the boxes that the plates come in now
have a White colored label on them instead of the usual Gold colored
label. Kodak says that this has nothing to do with the plates and is a
cost cutting measure, but, since this change happened, there have been
MANY plate problems around the country. These lines you describe is one

You should check out the PlateScope by Techkon. It's a German company,
but available in the USA. It's MUCH faster than Xrite, and more accurate
than icPlate or ccDot. There is NO extensive calibration required, it's
a simple white spot built onto the charging cradle. It also has features
to export pictures of the image to whatever you want, and the Pro model
lets you calibrate your CTP curves. It can also read color, although it
took some experimentation to figure out how to "read" it. You can
