Desktop Publishing :: RE: Quick book publishing layout question! HELP!!!
Depends on your printer. I would want to say parent sheet size is 23x35 for a sheet fed printer, not a web printer, but again, every print shop is different in many ways. It also depends on the quantity. 1000 versus 100, 000 is a different story. Get a price on 36 pages and 40 pages, and see if it is worth it. Remember, you are the customer too. If you are ordering 1000, and he is running everything on a 40" press or larger, then it is his issue. Many places have large, medium, and small presses. This would make the two forms run on the large press, and one for run on a small press, and you get 36 pages. - Read More at This Link..

Desktop Publishing :: Quick book publishing layout question! HELP!!!

Desktop Publishing :: Quick book publishing layout question! HELP!!!
Quick question! I am illustrating a children's book which required 36 drawings (1 per page). Our publisher pointed out that we waste a lot of paper if we don't add 4 pages, or remove 4 pages. My question is this. The book pages are 7 x 10 and I believe they print 16 per side making 32 pages the perfect sized book economically speaking. So... what size is the sheet of paper they print on? I am suggesting ways of adding pages and using additional space to print a poster which would be trimmed off and shipped flat to us along with the books. We will fill one sheet wit... - Read More at This Link..

Prepress Software :: Photoshop: Levels OR Curves

Prepress Software :: Photoshop: Levels OR Curves
I've been in prepress for 11 years. I've worked my way up from graphic reproducer, production manager to system admin (now). I think I've seen a fair bit, but, yesterday threw me a curly one. A new staff member was having trouble using Photoshop and his pix were looking very pixelated and grainy. This turned out to be the cameras very high ISO and very low resolution, but, was exasperated by some very contrasty Photoshop adjustments. Chasing the cause of the grainy affect I found that using Levels adjusted the image in a much less contrasty result than the same adjustments i... - Read More at This Link..

Thanks for your reply! Both of our HP's are running off Wasatch, and the Roland runs off of Roland's VersaWorks. Our workflow has simply been separated between the machines up till now - all of one project going to one machine, so there is never an inconstency within a project, but obviously, we'd like to get them all working in concert. -This forum has already helped immensely, as I have been digging through all the archives for random info, but this subject of color management seems to be one that there are no standard fixes, and few people actually know about them, so it's g... - Read More at This Link..

Computer To Plate : vertical lines in Kodak THERMAL gold CTP plates

Computer To Plate :: RE: vertical lines in Kodak THERMAL gold CTP plates
===========================
Kodak has been experiencing some "issues" with the Thermal Gold plates
recently. If you have noticed that the boxes that the plates come in now
have a White colored label on them instead of the usual Gold colored
label. Kodak says that this has nothing to do with the plates and is a
cost cutting measure, but, since this change happened, there have been
MANY plate problems around the country. These lines you describe is one
symptom, especially on the Magnus series machines. The "fix" from Kodak
is to reduce your drum speed and power by about 20%, until the resolve

You should check out the PlateScope by Techkon. It's a German company,
but available in the USA. It's MUCH faster than Xrite, and more accurate
than icPlate or ccDot. There is NO extensive calibration required, it's
a simple white spot built onto the charging cradle. It also has features
to export pictures of the image to whatever you want, and the Pro model
lets you calibrate your CTP curves. It can also read color, although it
took some experimentation to figure out how to "read" it. You can
measure the dots on screen, in microns, if you want actual dot sizes,
and it has a 4X zoom also, and can store several hu... - Read More..

Prepress Software :: Defined Trim & Bleed inside a page

Hi all, for many years you have been able to print your jobs to PDF that include bleed and trim areas when you define them in the print setup. But what if your templates have all of that defined within your pages, how do you then get that information into your resulting PDF without post processing your file with something like Pitstop. I'd like to be able to define Bleed Guides and Trim Guides within my documents that are carried through to Postscript or PDF that the workflow systems then honor rather than redefining them after. It helps to be in an environment where you can watch over someone's shoulder and learn how to do some of those things - and I know that's sometimes hard to find anymore. Personally, I'm online every day, following all the major Macintosh troubleshooting and news sites, participating in various troubleshooting forums, in addition to working with the hardware and software in my daily job duties and troubleshooting for others. Just being able to absorb the information doesn't do you much good if you can't "practice" using what you've learned somewhere. So look for somewhere you can get that hands-on practice. ‘6G’ iPod rumored to get update for August

Rumours of a trimmed down full iPod arriving possibly in the first half of August are beginning to appear. Apple’s full-sized iPod could be about to receive an update, possibly as soon as the first two weeks in August. Apple engineers have trimmed the height of the popular player while still maintaining the essential design of the 320x240-pixel screen and clickwheel. The height cut could be as much as an inch (2.5cm) and bring the iPod down to similar dimensions to a Blackberry device.

However, the most important new features are likely to be underneath the surface where rumours of a new iPod operating system are said to be true, which borrows a number of features from the recently release Apple iPhone. It’s likely that Apple will refer to the new model as the 6G iPod. Meanwhile, Apple has reported a bumper third-quarter for its 2006-07 financial year ending June 30, posting revenue of $US5.41billion for the quarter and a net profit of $US818million, up from the $US4.37billion/$472million revenue/profit split for the same quarter last year.

iPod Mini, about iPod Mini FREE accessories, features

There's more about iPod that I didn't even know about till I did more reading. The iPod I've read, is even good for organizing contacts? iPod Mini has games, can function as an external 4GB hard drive, and iPod Mini has a really good improved battery life.

Only negative or missing feature things I've read are really of no consequence to me. iPod Mini has no FM radio or recording capabilities.

A couple of things missing of note that I did think were important to know. The battery on iPod Mini is not user-replaceable, wonder how long the battery will last? Then what? What if battery life is only 1 year with heavy use? Does that mean I have to send off to factory to get the battery replaced every year. I must say the iPod battery not being user replaceable is a shock to me. iPod has open questions on battery life and what you are we supposed to do if the battery goes out?

iPod Mini has no FireWire cable and AC adapter included in the purchase. That was a surprise to me also. How much could it cost apple to include a couple of cables so you can actually use the product? They (apple) are obviously doing this to charge extra, an upsell for the damn cables that did not come with the $199 investment you make. Oh, well, don't all big companies just try to milk us on stuff like that.

Still, I love it, I want an Apple iPod Mini for sure, I can carry around several days worth of tunes in a tiny, attractive player. I can be cool, iPod makes me one of the design freaks, fashionistas, music fans who are hip and have the stuff you need to jam out anywhere, listening to only your favorite music with NO COMMERCIALS. Apple offers the iPod Mini in two different capacity options with a more competitive pricing scheme. iPod mini has many obvious improvements in an already best-of-class music player.

iPod Mini, Still looking, finding out about about iPod Mini features and accessories

It's just obvious at a glance the iPod Mini is a cooler design than the older iPods. iPod Mini just has a great design and interface has great misic playlist features, iPod comes in four colors, clean sound. Of course the iPod Mini has smooth syncing with iTunes because it's an aplle product.

But, there's more about iPod that I didn't even know about till I did more reading. The iPod I've read, is even good for organizing contacts? iPod Mini has games, can function as an external 4GB hard drive, and iPod Mini has a really good improved battery life.

iPod Mini's best design feature is the ClickWheel. iPod Mini's click wheel has been modified with color-coded labels that match each color option. Apple Computer has now done away with the unpopular gold model. iPod Mini's most exciting enhancements are the improved battery life--now rated at 18 hours of iPod Mini use, and the addition of a 6GB iPod option priced at$249. The 4GB iPod Mini is now priced even more aggressively at only $199. iPod brand is now synonymous with excellent portable audio players, and this second-generation Apple iPod Mini carries on the tradition with iPod Mini's fashionable and intelligent design. Apple Computer has made a few necessary updates to its stylish microdrive mp3 player. An iPod Mini with a color screen is not yet a reality, but Apple is now prepared to maintain it's current status of best-of-class mp3 players now called "Mini killers." I'm going for the best, that's the Aplle iPod Mini for sure, hands down.

Now, what color. . . I'm still leaning blue myself. What color do you like?

pple 4 GB iPod Mini Blue for sale - M9436LL/A

OK, I'm settling in on the blue apple ipod mini. I have read the reviews, I went to the apple store while I was out of town and looked at the different apple iPods and I must say it has to be the blue or silver.

These little apple iPod mini players are great. You know, 4 GB is allot of jams. One thing about the older heavy iPod that I had was that it was heavier. I got an accessory armband thinking I could listen while jogging. Well, it was a little too heavy and was just slinging around and stuff. Now the Apple iPod mini is very light, about what a guy really needs for carrying weight.

The apple iPod mini silver is really sharp. But, the apple iPod mini blue is the one I want. I read an article saying that 90% sold were blue? After looking and comparing the two. The apple iPod mini blue is very nice for sure. Yes, i think it's the blue one for me. Now I need to look for a case, maybe just a leather case would be the best.

ipod mini, still trying to geat a free one, no luck

Ok, OK, I get it, this is just one cloaked ipod sales attempt after another, these click through ads about shoot the paparazi and win an ipod etc. Aahh I love the web, what a dump! :) Anyway, now I'm just pissed, I'm going to keep trying to win a free ipod mini or atlease get me a cheap ipod throgh an offer.

I read an article today about some people selling these aluminum ipod cases. The users/customers were all upset because there was no padding inside the case. So the case to protect it is like banging it and scratching it all up. He He He. I guess I'll avoid those. . .

So, today, I'm talking to my daughter that I'm stalking the illusive free ipod from the internet. Like a hunter gatherer after the big kill. Anyway she's saying "dad you can't podcast with a scrawny ipod mini!" OMG, what is a podcast i said, you go fishing with it or what?

Well, podcast is like the newest craze and she's already wanting to record her own podcast. She's saying it's like freestyle uncontrolled media by the everyman? Hhmmm. Not sure that will really be that great, is that going to be like the guys with 16" speakers in the trunk. OK, I guess I better find out what that's about and whether i can podcast with an ipod mini. . .
